Once upon a time ,
along time ago there was a little tomboy called Jo. Jo tried many hobbies..skiing,
piano, karate. Unfortunately for her she had the grace of a hippo, suffered
from music blindness and a ill timed trip to a bernie inn restaurant after
Jo's karate lesson, still in outfit, quickly put a stop to her endeavours
to become daniel san. Strangers from all over this quality restaurant
mocked her by shouting "heeeeyaaah" as she passed, to go to
the toilet, stuffed full of onion rings.
Jo borrowed her mothers
classical guitar and a book. She spent half an hour learning the chords
to three blind mice and then wrote her first song.
Jo's first soiree
into pretending to be a pop star was when she shipped to childrens holiday
camp when she was 16. Everybody else was 12....
Jo made friends with
a singer who sang country hits in the evening to the campers.
Jo sang with the singer
and played "Hotel California" - something she had been working
on for some while.
6 months later, she
received a call from the singer who invited her to play in paris. She
was asked to learn 70 songs in 3 days.
At eighteen Jo moved
to Kent and got invovled with a folk club at the penny theatre, This was
a place full of shiny people who gave love and support to those who were
trying to get involved, learn protocols, support others. In all truthfulness,
it was the people at the club that kept her going.
Every week Jo would
go with her new song, and every week she received more and more support
and praise.
Jo's first band was
called " The Jack Knife Lillies" and it was a duo with Sue Giner-
a spanish singer from Kilburn, So beautiful is Sue's singing that Jo eventually
gave her her first guitar which she still has. The Jack Knife Lillies
had a good following although very little amplification.
Next came Jo and CJ-
where for a couple of years they stormed the pubs of Canterbury and a
few in London to an exciting and mouthy combo of vocals drums and guitar.
Jo and Cj can be spotted from time to time doing songs together and it
still sounds great. Cj runs the most popular open stages in these parts
so check her out on

Then, the first album
and an attempt at piecing together a larger louder band. Jo and the three
Pauls had a limping start and showed promise until love lured one Paul
to St Albans and one Paul out of the band.
Band plans scrapped
and Jo started gigging with Jim Laslett as guitarist until he left, wanting
to make his own name for himself( which he has done very successfully)

Becca Green also joined
and is now a core part of Hook.
Becca has been in
more bands than she has had hot dinner but any of you who know her playing
will know that the lady herself is high in demand,
Since Becca joined,
and pre-Hook, Richard and Adrian on bass ( add your web if you want to)
and Jake on guitar also came and went.
Hook officially started
in about 2004 as Jo, Becca , Nick Thurston and Jez Aitkens.
Nick left to be a
father 2 years later and Rick filled in for 5 months.
The band wanted to
try out having backing singers and so took on Emily and Hannah ( the devine).
Tudor joined as the
bass player and has been making us kick ass ever since. Tudor is also
in a band called Callback http://www.myspace.com/callback01
Nick tells us he is
now playing a funk band .
In March the band
had a shake down after Emily leaving due to commitments elsewhere to try
a change of direction.
Hook as you know it
is now
Jo
Becca
Tudor
.........until we
find a synth/glock player... or anything else that seems to be a good
idea.
Hook's sound ranges
from chunky indie pop tunes to accoustic ballads.
